Zits
Pimples are skin problem that affects people in their adolescent stage and up. Even a single pimple is enough to make even almost anyone want to remove it for fear that others would notice. Face zits are worst because the face is often what people see first - zits found somewhere else could be equally painful or ugly (or worse) but at least these are hidden from other people's view.
Hands Off
Rule number 1 in treating zits is to hands off - meaning that manipulating, pressing, popping, or picking the zit is a big no-no. Why so? Well, bacteria are actually spread when the pimple is opened and this could also increase the chances of scarring the affected area.
Medicate
It is important to medicate as soon as possible to prevent an outbreak. No, the problem will not go away as fast as you want it to without intervention on your part. Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most effective medications in treating pimples. However, it is important to follow the directions in the packet and not over-medicate. Products such as sulfur and resorcinol are also effective in dealing with this skin problem. To get rid of zit problems, you could actually cover the places prone to developing pimples - the nose, chin, cheeks, chest, and back. However, go easy on the treatment to prevent irritation.
Wash Properly
Some people think that rubbing their faces hard when washing helps make the zits go away. The opposite happens because the sensitive portions become irritated and could produce new pimples or other skin problems. It is also important to use mild soap or even non-soap cleansers once or up to two times a day - washing too many times could also cause irritation and skin drying.
Go Easy on Exfoliants
Exfoliants are marketed as tools for preventing and treating pimples; however, when the skin already has breaks or clogged pores, it becomes sensitive to chemicals and exfoliants - thus, use these in moderation and with care. Redness zits characterize irritated skin - don't apply exfoliants unless your dermatologist says so.
Avoid Oil
Your skin already produces oil - adding to it using oil-based make-up products can aggravate the pimple problem.
Watch Your Food
It is important to watch what you eat so that these will not cause an acne outbreak or could aggravate the pimples. Yes, there is still no scientific correlation between food and pimple outbreaks but it pays to be extra careful.
Zits are skin problems that can be solved with the right amount of treatment, prevention, and care.
