Natural Acne Treatment

Acne treatments come in many shapes and forms, some based on the severity and type of the acne, some based on the particular physiology of the patient. Many treatments, especially for severe cases of acne, can be harsh and sometimes have effects that may not be tolerable by the individual using them. Natural acne treatment is sometimes employed for individuals for whom sensitive skin, allergies and other conditions make more standard treatments ineffective.

Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most commonly used medicines to treat acne. The compound does an excellent job, in most individuals, in mitigating the worst acne, shrinking blemishes fairly quickly and, when used in the form of a pad, giving the skin a very thorough cleaning that can prevent or minimize further eruptions. Benzoyl peroxide is commonly available over the counter or in prescription strengths, the compound is, however, known to cause drying of the skin. In individuals with already dry skin, this can cause further problems. For individuals with darker skin, this can cause an "ashy" appearance and may be nearly as difficult to deal with as is the acne itself. Natural acne treatment is usually more gentle.

Antibiotics are another line of treatment for acne, usually used in the most severe cases. Antibiotics kill bacteria in the body, including those which cause acne. Sometimes the treatments are topical and sometimes a standard dosage of antibiotics taken by mouth is prescribed. Many individuals, however, suffer from allergies to antibiotics and, among allergies, these can be the most severe and sometimes life threatening. Antibiotics also kill useful bacteria in the body and can have unpleasant effects on the digestive system. Though they may be useful in some cases, antibiotic treatments represent a very intense level of treatment for acne that is not appropriate for all patients.

Natural acne treatment is generally gentler and more appropriate for a wider variety of acne sufferers. Green tea is sometimes used to treat the disorder as it contains anti-oxidants that can help normalize the skin. Strong but chemical-free soaps can help cleanse the skin without over drying. Diet is recognized as a cause of acne. A good diet combined with a healthy exercise regimen can oftentimes lessen the effects of acne by improving health overall. It also has tremendous psychological benefits which translate to better health, including the lessening of acne. If harsh treatments aren't desired, consider a natural acne treatment as an alternative.
